help need to remove HD0

I have two hard drives hd0 and hd1 windows is installed in hd1 and I want to remove hd0 and use it as an external drive.
But if I remove it windows won't start.
Is there any way to remove hd0 and then get windows working without reinstalling?
Any help appreciated

    You may be able to get it to work doing a repair install. Other then that you are pretty much out of luck other then a clean install.
