Hey guys:

I've got a 2.5" External case for a portable hard drive. What brand or model do you recommend with a capacity of 40GB or 60GB that is both fast and durable and has a good price?

Is there some technology to protect the hard drive if I drop it or it bangs around in my bag for example?

Thanks,
Adam

You could package it up in a couple feet of foam rubber and duct tape.

Any of the laptop drives will work. The newer 7200 rpm ones are faster. I just buy cheap 40gb ones on ebay. Does not seem to matter what brand

I've heard of some brand of harddrives having special mechanisms for moving the head on and off the plates to make sure it doesn't damage anything in case of any sudden shock or movement.

I wasn't planning on throwing it at the wall. ;)

when you power it down it moves the heads off the normal area of the platters that contains data. If its running your screwed. does not matter what brand.
