Prostitutes Call for Ban on all GTA Games

Take-Two's extremely successful 'Grand Theft Auto' series is again under fire, this time by a very surprising organization: the 'Sex Workers Outreach Project USA'. The S.W.O.P. is asking all gamers, parents and even kids to boycott these games stating that the games "accrues points to players for the depiction of rape and murder of prostitutes.".
The Grand Theft Auto franchise is getting attacked from all angles. Joining the ranks of politicians, policemen, and attorneys in their crusade to see the game lifted from shelves are the nation's sex workers. On its Web site, the Sex Workers Outreach Project USA is asking parents to assist them in calling for a ban of Take-Two Interactive's controversial game.

Citing a 2001 document from the National Institute on Media and the Family's David Walsh, SWOP is calling "on all parents and all gamers to boycott Grand Theft Auto."

The organization quotes various points from Walsh's paper, including, "Children are more likely to imitate a character with whom they identify with. In violent video games the player is often required to take the point of view of the shooter or perpetrator."

Though the organization admits to being "adamantly opposed to any and all forms of censorship," as concerned parents themselves, they "wish to inform other parents of the potential danger extremely violent video games pose to children." Likewise, in the interest of promoting the rights of sex workers, the organization is opposed to the depiction of the rape and murder of prostitutes.

I think this is good news actually, to see that prostitutes and politicians have a common enemy ;)

Good to know that they're both operating on the same moral fibre.

Not exactly true. With prostitutes you usually at least get what you pay for...

The thing is in all of the GTA games you look after prostitutes and cart them around a little so they can make money.

Guess they would have preferred it if you had to kick the **** out of ‘em and generally "keep them in line" with a regular pimp slapping.

    Silly cows...

I do agree with keeping kids away from these types of games though, some of the content is a little questionable when it comes to your average 13 year old.

Personally i think GTA rules..... But i do see the arguement and GTA do have a very violent video game series but don't get me wrong aint it got a 18 certificate?? yes i know they can still get it anyway regardless of the age on the game i hear you say but one sure way to make this ok is if they ship the game with a code or something that makes the games look acceptable but with the code unlocked it to what you all know today.

Also for the depiction of the rape and murder of prostitutes is only a game dont play it or buy it if you are offended. Plus as stated "In violent video games the player is often required to take the point of view of the shooter or perpetrator" the game is that kind of nature go buy a driving game or sport game if it offends you.

I think there can be someway thet GTA lives on and everyone can accept it there are far more games that can offend why pick on GTA...

    GTA WILL NOT DIE !!!!

its a game, people need to understand this, it isnt reality. If you dont want your kids playing it, dont buy it for them, if they get it behind your back, beat there ass with a belt.

    its really that simple.
