i am going through a winxp re-install and all of the wonderful windows updates on one of my pc's. so i need to get the microsofts .net framework for my ati catalyst 6.2 drivers. my question is do i need to install microsoft .net v1.1 before i install v2.0? i would think that 2.0 includes everything form 1.1, right? or is 2.0 an update that requires 1.1?

gracias...

No, 1.1 and 2.0 are two seperate entities, so you need to install both, in any order.

Please excuse my ignorance, but are you guys referring to the XP Service Packs? If so, does this mean that whenever I upgrade or re-install an O/S I need to install all service packs and not just the most recent? If so I've got some serious work to do!!!

Um, err, SP2 on a bare XP (pre SP1a CD)..... Sure you do not have an XP CD that says it is "SP 1a" on its envelope??? If so, you still have fixes you want, but SP2 is the most major of those.

Oh, there are six more patches on WindowsUpdate as of last Tuesday, and if you use Windows Media Player you want them for sure.

No, we aren't talking about XP Service packs or even XP at all.

Yeah, like I said, scuse my ignorance. When I saw winxp in the opening thread I thought it was a reference to Windows XP. I took your reply as meaning that both service packs needed to be installed. Sorry for the misunderstanding.........

Thanks for the heads up StraightMan, got the Media player updates a few days ago. You might be able to enlighten me, with any upgrade of any O/S, will the latest service pack be sufficient or do I need to install each service pack? Mainly interested re: Windows 2000, as this is what I have previously installed on other peoples' systems.

You only need to install the latest as the updates are retroactive.

fyi, everything is working out fine for me after i installed v1.1.

but i did find on the ati website that .net v1.1 is required for their drivers. if you only install v2.0 it will lead to bsod heaven.
