Hey guys,
I want to start a listen server on Counter-Srike. I started a dedicated server, but when i start counterstrike, i cant seem to find my own server anywhere. I may be doing something wrong. Anyway i want to play and "serve" at the same time. Please tell me how to do this or link to a guide. Thanks SM!!

i dont think you can dedicate and play on the same account at the same time, and seen as you cant log onto steam in 2 instances youll need 2 pcs to run a dedicated server and play

I don't think we have as many counter-strike players as we used to. Not saying nobody here knows the answer, but not as many as would be able to tell you how to overclock an Athlon or how to remove spyware.

This is a forum specifically for Counter-Strike servers. They even have a sub-forum specifically for listen servers.

http://server.counter-strike.net/forums/

I can't be much more help than that. I haven't played CS in years, and I don't even know what a listen server is :D

If you can't see your own server, it's not broadcasting to a master server. IE, the cvars are set in such a fashion to make it a private server. Consult the manual.

ok guys, i started a dedicated server and a listen server but when i search for my server in steam, it won't detect it. I read on one of the counter-srike formums that the server is binding itself to "localhost" I have no idea what this means and the forum was way to old for me to ask anyone. Apparantly, if it is bound to "localhost" it becomes sort of like a LAN server where only computers on my network can see it. Any ideas of how to check if it is bound to local host or change it to something else?

I have no firewalls on. Um the ports are 27015 and 27016 from what I can remeber, and I've had both open for a while, which I made sure and checked just now. Anything else come to mind?

Sry i just figured out taht alltough i turned the windows firewall off, I iahd to go deeper into the settings to actually turn it "off". Anyway even after doing thiis, reopening the ports, and powercycling the router, no one is able to connect to my server except me. I can connect to it if i start an instance of COUNTER-STRIKE. I haven't had the time to try the listen server again after the changes, but I am planning to do it today. One more question --- Anyone know how to out your MP3's in The Sims 2? I tried to put them in but all the sound files are ".package" and when i change the extension of my MP3's to ".package", they become 1 kB and contain no sound whatsoever. Would file maid 2 work for mp3's ?

No you don't. I'm not sure how you do it but before two weeks ago my friend cody was running our dedicated server off of his PC.

Ya, i already know how to run and play at the same time. The server is running off of port 27016 while my cs client is on port 27015 so i can run both at the same time. The problem before was that because the server and client use the same ports, we cannot serve and play at the same time, but thats not a problem anymore.

You need to foward these ports also you shouldn't beable to see your server on the internet list only on lan.

Heres a quick noobs guide for hosting

Launch deticated server

Set the vars how ever you like but make sure the games set to internet rather then lan or the clients will be told this server is for lans only.

visit www.whatismyip.com find out the ip and give it to your friends

Tell your friends to go to there conoles and type "connect iphere:27015"

For you to join you click lan in the server browser and click your server.

Ok i just tried it and theres two problems. 1) I don't see my game in "LAN". 2) I cannot connect when I type connect ip adress:27015. It does connect when i type the IP that the sedi server thing tells me its on, whiich is different than what i found at whatsmyip.com.

gray i set my ports EXACTLY like yours, but i have a question. What's remote IP?? I left it blank in my router port forwarding settings, but do i need to set it to something?

It needs to be set to the ip of the computer that the servers hosted off of.

(Your router doesn't magicly know what computer you want those ports on :p)

so the ip i get at whatsmyip.com is yhe computer's ip or the router's iP?? y the hell do these people have to make this so confusing. You'd think steam would come with a more user-friendly way to do some of this stuff. and the ip i find at what's my ip is what i set as "remote ip" rite?

This has nothing to do with steam this is basic networking.

In my case the computer I host my cs server has the ip of 10.2.2.74 and my internet ip is what I can see on whatismyip.com.

I fowarded the following ports
2730-2739 TCP
1200 UDP
27000-27020 UDP

These are forwarded to 10.2.2.74

If all this is too complicated then hosting a cs server isn't for you, get one of your friends what knows something about networking to host it for you.

Well it is a bit complicated, but out of all my friends, I think I'd be the most capable of doing it. I'd be surprised if they could login to the router by themselves. And I think I can do it because I didn't really know anything about computer hardware about 4 mnths ago, but then I just built my own system about 4 wks ago. And same with my website. So I think I'll keep trying. Anyways, I just met a person on cs with a server and he wants to give some people admin on the server. I helped him install Admin Mod on msn and now we know we have it installed becauise when i go to the server in cs all the stuff comes up like AMX Lang Mod Installed and Admin Mod Installed....
The problem is that I gave him my steam ID and for some reason, when I put in the following command, (admin_gravity 50) (I even tried to login before that, admin_login kingg) it says "You do not have access to this command", which I should if I'm admin. I followed the step by step guide found at http://www.adminmod.org/help/online/ . Any ideas of what could be wrong?
ANYONE??
