Question about UPS backup systems for networking room

edited February 2006 in Science & Tech
Hi,

I am currently working on a UPS system that will be used to provide backup power to a networking room in the event there is a power outage.

The networking room consists of appoiximately 5000 VA of equipment and hence I need approximately 1 and 1/2 hours of back up time.

I understand the I will need external batteries in order to get this amount of backup time.

However I have a few questions:

1. Is it the atctual UPS or the is batteries that get hot when in usage?

2. My room is small and I need to sepearte the batteries and the UPS. What is the maximum lenght of cable that can be used between the UPS and the battaries so to avoid any mojor voltage drops?

Thanks.

Avin
