Spy Sheriff has taken over my computer and Im sure there is even more hanging out in there somewhere. I really appreciate those who can be of assistance! Here is the HJT log:

    Hi, Welcome to Short-Media :)

    Within a few seconds of looking at your log, I can see different infections. I think we should tackle all of them in one go.

    Please do the following as instructed.


    Before we begin, we need to disable SpySweeper otherwise it will interefere with some of the fixes. To do this, you need to:

    Open SpySweeper click > Options over to the left then > program options > Uncheck "load at windows startup".
    Over to the left click "shields" and uncheck all there.
    Uncheck "home page shield".
    Uncheck "automaticly restore default without notifiction".

    You have the nasty NewDotNet infection. Do the following to remove it:

    Please go to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel and uninstall NewdotNet. If you don't have that option or if you have difficulties then go to PROCEDURE 4 at this site

    Download CWShredder from here. Click the stand-alone version of CWShredder link to download CWShredder. Save the file to its own folder on your desktop.

    Run a scan by pressing the *fix* button. Close all browser and explorer windows before hitting the *fix* button.

    Please download Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to your desktop.

    - Print out these instructions and close ALL windows before continuing.
    - Double-click Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to run it.
    - Put a check next to Run this program as a task.
    - You will receive a message saying Look2Me-Destroyer will close and re-open in approximately 10 seconds. Click OK
    - When Look2Me-Destroyer re-opens, click the Scan for L2M button, your desktop icons will disappear, this is normal.
    - Once it's done scanning, click the Remove L2M button.
    - You will receive a Done Scanning message, click OK.
    - When completed, you will receive this message: Done removing infected files! Look2Me-Destroyer will now shutdown
    your computer    , click OK.
    - Your computer will then shutdown.
    - Turn your computer back on.
    - Please post the contents of C:\Look2Me-Destroyer.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

    If you receive a message from your
    firewall about this program accessing the internet please allow it.

    If you receive a runtime error '339' please download

    I couldnt find any of those entries under the HJT log file after I ran CWShredder but it seems Spy Sherrif still has hold to my computer.

    Good Job. Lets see if we can remove Spy Sheriff :)

    Please read these instructions carefully and print them out! Be sure to follow ALL instructions!

    Download smitRem.exe and save the file to your desktop.
    Right click on the file and extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

    Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan on your desktop.

    Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
    http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

    Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
    Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

    If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates:
    Ad-Aware SE Setup
    Don't run it yet!

    Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
    1. Restart your computer
    2. After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
    3. Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
    4. Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
    Now scan with HJT and place a checkmark next to each of the following items and click 'Fix Checked':

    Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
    Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
    The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.


    Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.


    Run Ewido:
    (Do not use the computer while Ewido is scanning)
    • Click on scanner
    • Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
    • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
    • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
    • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
    • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
    • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
    • When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
    • Save the report to your desktop
    Close Ewido

    Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Website > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

    Reboot back into Windows and click the Panda ActiveScan shortcut.

    - Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
    - A new window will open...click the Check Now button
    - Enter your Country
    - Enter your State/Province
    - Enter your e-mail address and click send
    - Select either Home User or Company
    - Click the big Scan Now button
    - If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
    - It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
    - When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
    - When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.

    Post the contents of the Panda scan report, along with a new HijackThis Log, the contents of smitfiles.txt and the Ewido Log by using Add Reply.
