Hey guys,
I am trying to help my friend who has a counter-strike server to install AdminMod on it. He has very basic knowledge (he didn't know where to find Program Files :hiding: ) and to tell him how to do it on MSN or AIM was a pain and he still couldn't do it (:rockon:we did find Program Files though:rockon:). I can't go to his house or anything because he lives in Canada, and I was wondering if there was any progs like the old MSN or Microsoft Remote Assistance that lets you connect through the internet to his desktop and do stuff. The new remote assistance, apparantly, only allows this through a network. Oh ya, and it has to be free because this may be the only time I use it. We are both on 3.0 MBPS connections. Thank you for the help guys.

He has to open port 5900 and forward it to his computer. If he can't even find "program files" you might have a lot of trouble explaining that.

is there any ports that are open by default? because it has a setting to change what port it uses and instead of explaining how to open a port, i can just tell him to change this setting to a default port.

have him add you as a user on his css server then enable remote desktop connection. Then all you need is his IP and the username and password for the server.

There are many ways to get control of the remote computer to help your friend out. There are commercial and free products. One such free method would be to use rdp since you'll be openning a port on the firewall anyway. If they have windows xp pro instaleld on their computer then you could use microsoft's rdp (remote desktop protocol) to get to it. One of the drawbacks of this is that once you connect to your friends computer they won't be able to see what your doing on it. Other than that you'll have full remote access and control of it.

If you find you'll be connecting to not just this computer but other friends' computers in the future is to try a very inexpensive pprogram/service that won't require any openning of ports on your friends router or firewall. For remote assistance software try www.4remotesupport.com. It there's nothing to maintain, you don't need a website or to buy any hardware and the software doesn't remain running on your friends and families computers. They get help from you when they need it. It's a kind of on-demand remote support software and it's affordable too.

    I hope this helped...
