False results from spy/ad ware scans???
I have scanned my computer with a few spyware/adware program scanners and some come up with some risks, and others don't. My Case:
I scanned (deeply) with ScanSpyware and it came up with CWS in 2 locations
1) C:\DOCUMENTS & SETTINGS\USERNAME\Local Settings\Temp\mvull.tmp\directx.exe
2) C:\PROGRAM FILES\CANON\Easy Web Print\Toolband.dll
Is the #2 file for my Canon Printer or Camera?
ScanSpyware also came up with 9 instances relating to my MP3 Player and it's programs, Lyra Jukebox.
It came up with 2 instances of Realbar in:
Program Files\Common Files\Real\Toolbar
" " " "\RealBar.dll
And 1 instance of 7AdPower in:
Windows\System32\objsafe.tlb
And 1 instance of 2020 Search Toolbar in:
Program Files\Dynamic Toolbar
With my PC-cillin 2005, all it found was the 7AdPower.
CWShredder never found the CWS CoolWebSearch
I went online and looked for manual removal of these items. When I found the instructions, I opened the Registry and never found one file listed for removal. If I have the spyware, why wouldn't I have the files in the Registry?? I'm confused. Has my PC-cillin cleaned them prior to this discovering of them, but left partial files on the hard drive?
Should I post a hjt log inthe Virus\Malware

:wow2: They will try to get you any way they can, eh? Thanks for the lesson. Can I just delete ScanSpyware or is there an uninstal associated? And should I just leave those lines I posted in my original question?
I guess that was a 2 hour lesson(scan time).:banghead:
There should be a uninstaller in Add/Remove Programs.
About the files:
C:\DOCUMENTS & SETTINGS\USERNAME\Local Settings\Temp\mvull.tmp\directx.exe << this should go. Link and Link
C:\PROGRAM FILES\CANON\Easy Web Print\Toolband.dll << this can stay
Windows\System32\objsafe.tlb << seems to be safe
C:\Program Files\Dynamic Toolbar << looks like it may need to go.
I suggest downloading HijackThis and posting a log here, before you start removing anything. I'l have a look and see if there is any malware on your pc
Here's my log.

BTW, I uninstalled AVG because at present I'm running PC-cillin until next month. It wouldn't let me get my mail, either.

Thank you again.
I don't know why this happened again. I went to options in Word Pad and checked No Wrap.
I'll try again.
OK, I checked my Word Pad and it has no spaces. It must be something with the way it's accepted by this board?? Maybe?? I'm at a loss as to what to tdo next. Sorry.:(
OK, I'm going to post once more and when I paste my log, I'll manually take out the spaces.

Cool
I never found SpywareKilla in the Add\Remove pgms.
I checked and fixed all the lines you indicated.
Never found C:\Program\SpywareKilla folder.
Did a search for all files/folders with word spywarekilla in file name.
Search came up with
scampspywarekilla.bckp in C:\Documents&Settings\myname\Application Data\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware\Quarantine
Rebooted, ran HJT.

Freedom Harley-Davidson is an interactive calendar from Freedom H-D.
As for the SpywareKilla folder, I only find the ScanSpyware folder, which I presumed I had deleted yesterday, and the SpyWare Doctor folder.
svchost.exe are legit processes and everyone has multiple instances of them running at once. More info at Microsofts Knowledge Base
The ScanSpyware folder should stay deleted now. As for Spyware Doctor, that is a trustworthy program. It can be removed from Add/Remove programs if you do not want it.
How are things now?
A few things you can do to stay more secure.
Secure your Internet Explorer by going here and following the instructions there.
Better yet, use an alternative browser! Download FireFox and give it a run. It is far more secure than Internet Explorer. Or, you can get Opera which in my opinion, is better still.
Use a firewall to help prevent your PC's control being usurped by undesireables. If you don't have a Firewall, then choose ONE below
Zone Alarm
Sygate
Sunbelt Kerio PF
Install an anti-virus. There are some good, free AV's available today. Make sure that it is updated regularly and have it scan your system often. If you don't have one, choose ONE from below.
Nod32
AVG Free Edition
AntiVir
avast! 4 Home Edition
Install and keep updated, Ad-Aware SE, and Spybot Search & Destroy.
Run them both on a regular basis, following the manufacturer's recommendations.
Install and keep updated, SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard
Check for Windows Updates. Microsoft regularly post updates for your systems safe running. Make sure to take advantage of this. Reboot when installed and return to make sure there are no others.

For XP users.
After something like this it is a good idea to Flush the Restore Points and start fresh.
To flush the XP system Restore Points.
Go to Start | Run | type msconfig | Press Enter.
When msconfig opens, click the Launch System Restore Button.
On the next page, click the System Restore Settings link on the left.
Check the box labelled 'Turn off System restore'.
Reboot! Go back in and Turn System Restore Back on. A new Restore Point will be created.
Note that all previous restore points will be lost.
Everything seems to be OK, now.
I haven't used IE for ages. I use Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird.
The Antivirus/spam/firewall I have is from PC-Cillin Internet Security 2005, dure to expire soon. Have had no problems other than what I have caused myself by downloading (what I thought) were legit programs. HA!
I have a wireless connection to a router for my wife's laptop (also using PC-Cillin), and I connect via firewire(?) telephone plug looking wire. The router is connected to provider's hub, also via firewire.
For $30Cdn/year, I figure PC-cillin is good. How would you rate it compared to the free programs you have listed? Should I be running any of those while PC-cillin is active?
I will Flush and reboot as you suggested, now.
Thankyou very mcuh. BTW, I have a thread in Virus\Spyware\whatever re: my friend's computer is near-to-dead.
Could I have you take a look at it please?
I'l look at your friends thread
We can close this thread if you want.
I'l leave this thread open for now.
