Rob, I haven't had any problems with Nero 6 Ultra on my Opteron 170 system. It burns cd's and dvd's with no problems. However, when I first put my system together, I had a NEC dvdrw drive in it and I couldn't burn with it for some reason; said it had some kind of communication error when going to burn. So I went and bought a Lite-On dvdrw from Walmart (oh, the joys of getting safety bonus Walmart cards :D ) and installed it and it ran with no problems whatsoever. Then I decided to try the NEC in my daughter's computer when I was setting it up in my watercooling case and the NEC works just fine in it (also with Nero 6 Ultra). Why I had that problem with the NEC in my DC system I have no idea, but maybe it was some kind of incompatibility between it and the nf3 chipset my Epox board has.

One thing you might try is to uninstall the dvdrw drive in device manager, then power down and unplug the ide cable from it and cycle through a boot up sequence into Winblows, then power down. Then replace the ribbon cable and boot back up and let Winblows reinstall the dvdrw drive. Maybe that will help. Other than that, I have no clue.

lol,im using nec 2510-a dvdrw drive and it wont burn dvds,it burnt music cd through windows media, but no dvd through nero 6/7 or ashampoo
next option was trying flash on drive

i dont think its software anymore its down to drive as windows is now seeing this drive as standard cdrom drive not dvd burner, so its not being recognized through burning software.
i went to flash but ive got latest firmware on drive, i think ill do what you said muddocktor about dissconnecting ide etc and reinstalling through windows

Yeah, I did the "flash to the latest firmware" thing too, but it didn't help me out at the time either. All I can think of is to let windows reinstall the drive after removing it, or changing the drive out to another brand in a worst case scenario. Like I said earlier, the nec wouldn't work on my nf3/DC system but it works just fine on a Pee4 HT system.

I Friend of mine is having a problem with Nero and his DVD Burners (Samsung 8X DVD Burners) and his machine is also an X2 3800+ but on a VIA K8T800 Pro chipset (Abit AV8). I'm thinking the problem may be Nero and the DC CPU. Maybe a core affinty needs to be set....

Omega65 im using abit av8 board and 3800 dual core with nec 2510-a dvd burner. i used nero 6/7 and ashampoo and none will burn, drive will burn music files through media player 10 but not through nero.

same board and chip as your mate, same prob 2 differant makes of burners
    gotta be core.

has your mate tried any other burning software?

Yes and only Nero gives him some problems. It usually does work but sometimes it just wont.

You are using the latest version of Nero 6? They do seem to update it monthly....

Well, as I said, Nero is sometimes flaky but it usually does work. His problem is when tryting to copy to two drives at once. Another buddy, with 2 NEC 1300A Burners but with a XP-M 2400+ & a Abit KV7 (VIA KT600) mobo dosen't have any problems selecting multiple drives.
