Urgent help needed

my system has been suffering of late
today has been the worst
the pc started to turn itself off and has repeatedly gone into BSOD meltdown
every now and then i get about 15 mins so hopefully i can get this posted
i have tried system resoring and it wont let me
i have tried resetting the BIOS but even when i have been in the BIOS it has BSODed me
i have tried reinstalling xp but i cant even get that to start up
i restarted and it told me at the restart stage that i had no system installed
i run bootfix which allowed me back into windows but it has repeatedly crashed
the BSODs have been different types ie endless loop,problem with drivers etc
has anyone got any suggestions other than hit itwith a big ball pein hammer
i am going to get a new harddrive but dont want to lose any data
i ahev tried to back up but when i try to burn to disk it blows me out by restarting or BSOD
lots of family pictures and a brutal wife standing over me
HELP PLEASE!

    It could be overheating, open it up and check for alot of dust. Also check the PSU(power source) for dust

    i have had the box open and there was quite a build up of dust .i have blown most of that out as best i can .
    switched off and unplugges of course.i made sure too that no moisture got into any of the partsd.i have checked all the connections to the drives and motherboard etc
    i took out the battery and tested the voltage which is ok
    all i can think of doing i have done and still keep getting BSODs
    this seems to be the longest i have been able to stay on
    touch wood
    is there anything that would stop me being able to run check disk and defrags etc
    i cannot run AVG as any testing of the system shuts it down
    when i ctrl+alt+del the task manager sya that i am high % of usages that jumps all over the place quite a lot
    any ideas please

    Try Safe Mode if it crashes again. (Press F8 before Windows starts to load .)

    i cannot perform any system error checks with out it closing down and restartnig or blue screeneing me

    If you can get into the BIOS long enough, try looking for "Fail-Safe Defaults" and see if that setting helps.

    The comments about heat and your PSU are well worth pursuing further. Are the fans in each spinning normally? If so, your next step may be to try a different PSU.

    I know how much it stinks to have a problem where you can't even get the thing running long enough to troubleshoot it. I hope it works out for you. :(

    check your memory first. Then we'll go from there.

    the memory testing download i am not too sure the process to ge through to set it up
    i tried earlier on but wasnt sure how to write it to disk and run the test off floppy
    i am not quite a novice but not far off one
    as far as the settings are concerned do you mean the default settings in BIOS?

    Extract (unzip) the files, then Double-Click "install.bat". It will ask you for the drive letter of your floppy (probably A: ), then the rest is automatic.

    Once the disk is made, set your Floppy Drive as the first boot device, restart, and off you go. :)

    i open up my C: drive icon and when i try to open the WINDOWS file page it shows the message
