Asrock has future proofed its AMD motherboards by giving a Future port slot in which you can plug a card to upgrade.

As most of you would probably know, Asrock has future proofed its AMD motherboards by giving a Future port slot in which you can plug a card to upgrade. Well, the card is already out there. It is pictured on a 939SLI2-eSATA2 board from Asrock. It can accommodate up to four DDR2 DIMMs.

    anybody notice that it doesn't look like the new am2 socket? looks kinda like regular old s939 if you ask me. what gives?

    Link is broken for me too, but then we don't have your 1337 powers too, prof. ;D;D EDIT: The original link, not the one in your last post. ;)

    And to whoever posted right above me, look at the HRM around the socket on the board. It is definitely using the new HRM style mounted with 4 holes instead of 2 holes like the regular A64 HRM. The socket should look almost exactly the same anyways as socket AM2 is a 940 pin socket, just keyed differently than the present socket 940 for server procs.

    The New Socket AM2 is just the old S940 with the pins rearranged slightly to better accomodate DDR2.

    Is the PCI-X bus fast enough for this thing? And isn't this like those older upgrade cards that were available for older 486 CPU system boards that you could place a AMD K6-2 or Pentium on them?
