Defragging problem (?)

Hi all,

this is Bothered's son, I came on here because I need a little help.

I started to defrag my computer last night but stopped it at 10% and went to sleep. Now my computer is running a lot slower than it did before. Could the fact that I stopped it before it finished have anything to do with this?

Could anyone with any help please email me :

cheers

Stopping it before it has finished should have no adverse affects..if your computer is runnin slow you rwally need to let it run all the way through though its probably highly fragmented ...make sure you have 15% space on your HD before you defrag this is how much space your computer needs.

You should also download the fre version of Adaware ....run that and get rid of any spyware that has sneaked on to your comp this a lot of the time is the root cause of computers running slowly in my experience.

Another god tool for cleaning up your system is Norton system works ..it will scan your whole computer detecting missing files and repair them for you ...you could be missing a dll file from a windows startup folder.

Well just a few possibly solutions for u ..let me know how you get on .

    Gluck

It could be that some program running interrupted the defrag. MAybe u should run a disk cleanup first, then run chkdsk and try it in safe mode. as tigertunes said, u need to defrag often as it doesnt take long each time then, also if its severely fragmented, it would be better to opt for some third party tool thats faster. This might be a good option, although it lacks some of the advanced features of the full version
