urgent with usb key

hi, i make this thing:
when i put the cables for the usb port i put them wrongly, meaning that i put the usb 5+ voltage in the place of the ground pin and the data - in the place of the data +,and put my usb key, and it didn't light up,so did i screw the u

    I think that you may have simply not powered the device. Your data should be OK. Try it in a USB port on the back of the PC and see if it still works.

    when i put the usb ,the xp show me unrecognised usb device ,so i put it at the back but nothing happened,is there a way to dump the data from it?because it is much valuelable.

    Can you give us a little more detail? I'm assuming this is a USB hard drive, is it by chance an IDE/SATA drive using a USB adapter?

    Try it in another pc if it doesn't work then your data is gone but the drive might be fixable. Run the manufactuers tools on it to try to fix it.

    edit: Im assuming your using a usb thumbdrive not a usb harddrive.
