Question about SATA

RockrzRockrz I'm right here!

If I had an external enclosure that supported SATA, can I plug it into a standard PC (that doesn't have SATA drives inside) and format the SATA drive?

I'm just trying to plan ahead as to what I can do in the event of hard drive failure on my new system that has the new WD 150gig 10,000rpm HD.

I use backup sofware, so restoring the system is no problem as long as I can format a new drive to put in my box.

I was thinking that if I ever did have HD failure, I could get a new SATA drive and use my wife's PC to format....

SATA is plug and play. You'll either need to convert it to USB, if the other system doesn't have SATA headers, or if it does, you can hot plug the drive up to the motherboard header (carefully) or even safer, the rear SATA port if the mobo has one.
