Can a person boot Windows XP Pro from a USB Pen-type drive and how big would the drive have to be to fit a basic XP Pro install? Would this setup out-perform a 36GB Raptor?

no usb device will out perform a normal HDD. i boot BartPE off a flash disk but to get it to install XP on it would be quite difficult, you can however get adapters and use a compact flash card as a hard drive and install XP, Linux you name it on those.

Try it. Only reason I can think of it not working is because it may not be able to "see" a USB drive without drivers installed after it's installation.

Not terribly useful if you're bent on using Windows, but I will be posting this guide to booting from a USB drive using Ubuntu from hddsaver.com on the front page soon.
