need help with W32/Alemod.f.dll virus

McAfee has detected this virus has infected the wininet.dll file, but it cannot be cleaned, deleted or quarantined

I also get an error message on startup saying "Explorer.exe application error...The application falied to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application.

The error message and the virus happened the same time, are they related? I also have no desktop icons or start menu, however the backgound image is there. I have to use ctrl+alt+dlt to open "windows task manager" to start any application

I have windows XP if that makes a difference....any help is greatly appreciated, Dave

Download smitem.exe(seach it in google). Extract the file.
One of the file in it would say replace.Click on it.
Just follow the instruction and type the name of the file you wanted to replace eg:-winnet.dll.
The virus file will be deleted and a new file will be created.
