That entry is still showing in your log. Did you reboot?

Please follow the instructions again and then reboot please.
  • edited March 2006
For some reason that Content.IE5 folder doesn't show. I found the file by doing a manual search, so I deleted it that way. But when I run HJT it still shows up in that same folder.

Did you enable Hidden Files and Folders? You won't see the Temp directories else they are viewable. Make sure Internet Explorer is closed, if you use it.

Go into Add/Remove programs and see if you find this file or something similar. Uninstall if you do.

    WinAntiSpyware2006Free

Post a new HJT log and we'll what we can do :)

Lets do the following scan, which is done in Safe Mode. When you are in Safe Mode, could you delete that file again before the following scan and see if the file comes back.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
    http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
When installing the program, under "Additonal Options" uncheck..
    • Install background guard
    • Install scan via context menu
Once installed, update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.
Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
    1) Restart your computer
    2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
    3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
    4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
    http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml

Once in Safe Mode, please run Ewido
(Do not use the computer while Ewido is scanning)
    • Click on scanner
    • Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
    • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
    • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
    • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
    • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
    • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
    • When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
    • Save the report to your desktop
    Close Ewido

Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.
  • edited March 2006
How much of a problem would it be if I were to leave this entry on here?
  • TroganTrogan London, UK
    edited March 2006
It shouldn't be a big problem, why?

If you havn't run Ewido, thats ok but could you run the Vundo Fix again please and post the log it creates?
  • edited March 2006
Ewido is currently running, but it has only found one thing which was false. It had nothing to do with the problem. I'll run Vundo fix once ewido is done. Should I run it in safe mode?
  • TroganTrogan London, UK
    edited March 2006
Ewido should have been run in Safe Mode but thats OK. Ewido will find and remove other bad files, so make sure that you don't deny each file...just make sure its definitely bad. Lets hope it finds the file we want to destroy. :)

Running Vundo in normal mode should be fine :)
  • edited March 2006
Ewido is running in safe mode. Should I run Vundofix in safe mode also?
  • edited March 2006
    Here is the Ewido findings:
    ewido anti-malware - Scan report

    + Created on: 12:08:54 PM, 3/12/2006
    + Report-Checksum: 3B115E82

    + Scan result:

    C:\Program Files\DIGStream\digstream.exe -> Not-A-Virus.Downloader.Win32.DigStream : Ignored

    ::Report End

    Vundo Fix also found nothing.

Are you posting from another computer? The internet doesn't work in Safe Mode...

Run Vundo in Safe Mode then.
  • edited March 2006
Yeah, I'm posting from my own PC. I ran Vundo in both safe and normal mode and it found nothing in both.

    Lets try this:

Download KillBox and unzip it to your desktop.
    http://www.downloads.subratam.org/KillBox.zip

Open KillBox and select the Delete on reboot option.

Next, copy and paste the following file path to the field labeled "Full path of file to delete"

    C:\Documents and Settings\Linda Smith\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\SPEJSPQB\WinAntiSpyware2006FreeInstall[1].exe

Press the Delete button (the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it).

A first dialog box will ask if you want to delete the file on reboot, press the YES button.

A second dialog box will ask you if you want to REBOOT now. Press the YES button.

Your computer will reboot. Post a new HJT log after.

It's still there. If it's no big deal to have the entry there, then don't worry about it. But here is the HJT log:
