What have you programmed in before? If you've done any C or C++ programming in Java will almost be old hat aside from a few changes with class interaction.

So far I have learned C, C++, Perl, Tcl/TK and Awk. I have gotten a bit into it, and it is pretty much old hat. Just a few quirks here and there. Not a bad language though. Thought I recommend getting the newest books. A friend gave me a book to use, and everything is the same except they change the way arrays work since the book was published. Thanks miracleman.

java, java, java by ralph morelli. i used it as a textbook and reference for a long time. covers a lot of basics, but doesnt touch on the newer generics found in java. still a great book for learning, imho.
