OK, for starters, can you give us your present system specifications? Processor and speed, motherboard, installed ram and such. :)

Download and run the latest version of CPU-Z from www.cpuid.com. Once you run the program, go to the Memory tab, and post what is displayed there. Also, go to the SPD tab, and check each 'slot' and let us know how many slots have memory in them.

    That info should help

how much are you looking to upgrade to? Your two best choices are probably 512 MB or 1 GB.

What programs are you running that need more memory?

Hrmmm well the easiest wasy to go is to buy this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820227039

open the side of your case and remove the stick or sticks that look just like it and put these in. Power up and you just gained 4x the memory you had. Your system will be snapier and aps will open faster.

I'm going to guess that this machine is an OEM box from DEll, HP or Compaq. If so it may be adviseable to see what memory is compatable. I also see by post #4 that it likely has onboard graphics that shares some of the RAM since there is 256 physical and 248 installed.
