Sony has announced a delay in the launch of the PlayStation 3 console system, due to technical difficulties related to the Blu-ray system. The PS3 is now scheduled to ship in November 2006.
Source: ReutersThe standardization of digital audio and video technology to connect electronics devices was also late, he said.
Kutaragi said Sony planned to produce 1 million PS3 units a month initially, for a total of 6 million units in the business year ending March 2007.
"This may not seem like much, but it's more than the initial capacity for PlayStation 2," Kutaragi said, adding that near-final tool kits to develop games would be available to software makers by mid-May.
Analysts expect the PS3 to cost about $500 with an initial line-up of at least five to 10 games.

i follow big on all of the consoles, as im a pretty big Console gamer
importing? dude, its gonna be a worldwide launch probably all within the same 2 week time
Well, thats the plan anyway.
He's right.
nothing is my problem, it just wouldnt be cool if you sold somebody a 500 dollar console, then they find out they can only play Asia region Blu-Rays and games...
I agree, and thus he will be slapped with all kinds of bad feedback and probably banned from Ebay if he doesn't release all the product info when selling it.
If your gonna sell them then go for it, but make sure you state clearly what the product is going to do before someone drops a wad on it. That will save you alot of grief.
What would be wise for you to do is to save your moralistic, misguided comments in the hopes that one day you might have a clue on when would be an appropriate time to use them.
Rapture, I know you, and I know you're not trying to rip people off. It was just a sincere comment from someone who was being honest. It wasn't a direct insult, please don't take it as such and get angry about it
How many people are truly upset by this? I'm not a fanboy by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm far more interested in the Revolution than the PS3. Granted, I'll probably own a PS3 on top of my 360 and a Revolution.
It sucks that it's being delayed, but I don't think it will affect sales at all. Too many loyal Sony followers.
Never! There wouldn't be the "Holy crap! I Must have one, because I can't find one!" :rolleyes2
I JUST FINALLY got a PS2, and it was a great purchase. I bought a used one with a bunch of games, accessories, etc, and now I can finally play all the great RPGs that have come out for the PS2 in the last several years.
This will be how I handle the PS3 as well. I will probably end up getting on 3-4 years from now when I can get one for $100 with a bunch of stuff to go along with it.
Now the Revolution, on the other hand.... I MIGHT be one of those crazy people that hangs out overnight in line to get one..... And I've NEVER done that for anything before.....
Well, the cell processor is one of the most complex processors to ever be put in a consumer electronics device, its more powerful then most peoples computers. Not only that, but its bringing back Vector Processing, wich IMO, is a great move by sony, they really are on top of their game right now. Not to mention that Nvidia is probably finalizing their RSX GPU for the PS3 right now, wich is supposed to be more powerful then 2 6800 Ultras put together.
That being said, im glad they are delaying it, i dont want issues with the cell and/or the blu-ray drive, not only that but a 60gb HDD pre-loaded with linux will be distributed with the PS3, so this also adds time for developers to work on that and the new online service that they anounced, that will compete with Xbox Live. You know, im almost positive sony is looking for the hype effect that killed dreamcast. Yeah dreamcast was out almost a year earlier then the PS2 and it WAS popular and was selling a lot before the PS2 came out. But once the PS2 came out it got crushed here in the USA. I think something similar to that might happen to Microsof.
But, if i only had one console i was going to buy this generation i think it would be the Revolution. But, i dont im going to buy just one, i think im going to jump on the PS3 bandwagon.
I cant wait!
I see this delay with a good eye. It can't be bad if they take more time to prepare the launch. It will surely provide us with less bugged console (XBOX 360 had his load of problems and RMA, im sure sony will try hard to avoid that)
It would have been a suicide for them to launch the PS3 'on a haste'.
I'll buy the PS3 for sure, i'll wait a little to be sure there's no RMA problems tho i'll buy a ps3 because i have a lots of PS1/PS2 games like many others. If they can avoid RMA problems, this will be an awesome console !
