Laptop battery is there any way to test

edited March 2006 in Hardware
Hi

I have an NEC versa note vx laptop and am having trouble with the battery
I think its at fault, i dont want to buy a new battery without finding out if its definetly faulty.

As soon as i pull out the ac adapter the laptop switches of. Even after been charged for 24hours the battery indicator shows nothin.

What do each of the contacts on the battery mean
V2
V1
+
P2
P1
T
S1
-

is there any way to test the battery
Can i put a multimeter on the laptop battery connections to check ut is sending power to teh battery.

Thanks

    Yep, you sure can..

I would just ground your negative pin on the multimeter to something large and metal (like your PC's case) and start probing the battery terminals one by one. I'm guessing the battery should have a voltage rating written on it somewhere.. one of the terminals should produce a rating close to that.. if not, then there is a good chance that the battery is toast.

Is this a new laptop? In my experience, a laptop battery will last 2-3 years with regular use before it is virtually useless. If it is fairly new, it could be a charging system problem on the laptop..
