Alright so I am running Windows XP Home Edition on an AMD Athlon XP 2400+ @ 2.0 GHz, 1.5 GB RAM, 250 GB HD from SeaGate, NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500, a PS/2 Compatible Mouse, and a Standard Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard.
Now on startup, I can see that my computer is a bit laggy. So I keep my mouse still, the next thing I know, my mouse icon is frozen, but I can still move my mouse around, but its impossible because you cant see and you need to try to fix the problem. So I went into my task manager and I looked at the processes running and I cut all the unnessesary ones out leaving me with:
taskmgr.exe, ApVxdWin.exe, explorer.exe, WebProxy.exe(which is from my AV), ctfmon.exe, wdfmgr.exe, alg.exe, svchost.exe, svchost.exe, scvhost.exe, System Idle Process, System, spoolsv.exe, mdm.exe, PavPrSrv.exe, nvsvc32.exe, pavfires.exe, snmp.exe, PsImSvc.exe, AVENGINE.EXE, smss.exe, prevsrv.exe, csrss.exe, winlogon.exe, services.exe, lsass.exe, svchost.exe, PAVPROT.EXE, PAVSRV51.EXE, svchost.exe, PavFnSvr.exe, Pavkre.exe, wuauclt.exe, and svchost.exe.
Ok, these all look normal, so I go into my control panel, and look at my mouse settings, I cange my initial icon into another one(i.e. like instead of standard it is a 3D dino). That does nothing. So I reset with another mouse hooked up instead this one is USB. It doesn't work, so I switch back and I boot into safe mode with networking, which led me to this site. In safe mode my mouse works fine. So I uninstall some programs that load on start and that I had no real use for them anymore. I reboot and the mouse is working, but then freezes agian, well the Icon atleast. I look at my mouse settings, and change trail movements and my mouse pops up. But it is driving me crazy and I still dont know what caused my mouse to do this in the first place. So any help would be appriciated.
P.S. I did go into Device Manager and all devices and drivers are working properly.

Same might apply for some other brands of mouse, old drivers not getting along with the SP2, but Logitech I KNOW has this issue. And SP2 is needed.
