It didn't bother me until now...

I've heard of this starforce product in the past, but I just didn't think of it too much. I mean let a company try to protect it's investment IMHO.

But I began reading some Penny Arcade news, and a link they had showing what Starforce does. The link I am referring to is here...

Now, that is too far I thought. I also thought... hrm this wouldn't happen to be on my system is it? So I looked... and I am now angry. Maybe I wouldn't be so angry if not for the added possibility of hardware problems that have appearently occured to others as mentioned in that article, but I think I am pretty sure I am just angry that it is ON MY DAMNED SYSTEM AT ALL. If you want to use a protection... leave it on your damned CD's or DVD's WHATEVER YOU WANT TO USE AS YOUR MEDIA DO NOT PUT YOUR **** ON MY SYSTEM! Your system is flawed, any future system WILL be flawed. There is nothing you can do against piracy. I respect your ability to continue to try to prevent piracy, but leave it OFF MY COMPUTER. I consider this a virus and no EULA should even be able to hold up against it. It'd be like putting "WE WILL OWN YOUR SOUL" in your EULA and think you can get away with it. NO.

I am angry.... confused.... and I just don't think even ranting about it here has even helped like it would normally. Becuase it is still on my system and I don't want to remove it in fear of it ****ing up my universe even more!

Igh, I don't even know what game installed it. Thankfully I haven't noticed any problem yet, my system has been like a rock since I set it up. But it did crash for the first time today. Maybe I am being nitpicky, but damn this angers me.

Someone is doing something about it RWB. Here is a quote from a site I visit. I do not know if the link is allowed here? If not, please delete it....

"I am a class action attorney in the United States (Chicago, Illinois, to be precise). I am investigating StarForce's DRM practices. (I am involved in one of the class actions currently pending against Sony BMG/Arista Entertainment regarding the use of XCP2 and MediaMax copy protection.) At the present, I am looking to speak with witnesses whose computers were harmed or damaged after installing a game with StarForce encoded on it." Please contact me through the forums, or visit this link:

There is a demo out there for free download...It is free for anyone to download. This is not piracy. It is a demo. It is called Uber Soldier. Guess what..is installs Starforce in your computer...

I looked through the known games list, and X3 has it. I don't have the full version, just the tech demo... and it's been uninstalled for some time now. Guess it doesn't want to leave. Though I did find a removal tool, from Starorces site, which did the job of getting rid of it. Thankfully it seems gone, but I'm keeping my eye out. Paranoia, maybe.... but I tend to thin, "not in this age".
