I'm running Gentoo Linux on AMD64 and am trying to play Secret of Monkey Island with SCUMMVM. I have the Macintosh version of Monkey Island with the files:
drasnor@jormungand ~/SCUMM/monkey $ ls -l
total 4715
-rw-r--r-- 1 drasnor users 8955 Mar 18 21:53 MONKEY1.000
-rw-r--r-- 1 drasnor users 1170183 Mar 18 21:53 MONKEY1.001
-rw-r--r-- 1 drasnor users 911949 Mar 18 21:53 MONKEY1.002
-rw-r--r-- 1 drasnor users 917242 Mar 18 21:53 MONKEY1.003

-rw-r--r-- 1 drasnor users 930111 Mar 18 21:53 MONKEY1.005
When I try to run the game with SCUMMVM, it gives the error:

The files came from the original Macintosh CD mounted using hfsutils and copied using hcopy -r (for raw transfer mode). I got Loom working this way but Monkey Island is being stubborn. Anyone seen anything like this? Google hasn't been helpful.
