What kind of modem do you have (internal or external, manufacturer and model no., FCC ID)?

You have a Lucent/Agere winmodem (software modem). Software modems are really only telephone interfaces and rely on software in the host computer to perform all the real modem tasks like modulation and demodulation. Most of the time this software is only released for Windows in the form of drivers (hence, winmodem) but fortunately for you a Linux driver is available for Lucent/Agere chipsets.

You can get the driver from the appropriate directory on Linmodems for your kernel version. If you need help finding the right driver from that list, post back with your kernel version (should be displayed in your boot menu, if not we can find it other ways).
