This is a 2 tier question...

1. What is the fastest athlon that will fit in my Abit KT7 non raid rev1 board. I think I read 1.4 , if so where if anywhere can I locate a retail box version, its ok if the packaging has 2 inches of dust on it.

2. Same motherboard, will the new 1.6 and 1.8 durons run in this motherboard or does it require the new chipsets?

    looks like the latest change to a bios was to support 1.4 athlons, i couldn't tell you about the durons

    im pretty sure its 1.4...at most...im pretty sure u cant do nething with it...besides 1.4

    The KT7's (not the KT7A) highest available standard bus speed is 100 Mhz, correct?

    If so, it shuld work with any CPU with a FSB of 100 MHz, and a multi of 12 (possibly 13).

    1.2 (100fsb) is all a rev 1 will go.

    I have a KT7 running a XP1600 at 1.4.
    I can get it to 1.53 by pushing the fsb.
    It runs a lot cooler than the 1.4 TBird.

    OK, i was wrong. I pulled my last KT7 (and gave it to my Dad). But as I recall it would run 13x and about 105fsb. I had a 1G TBird in it running at 1.2.

    Check out the Deal Depot, I picked two KT7A's up used. They run fine (real cheep).

    I had 40 bucks to blow anyway I wanted... Not alot but when you can afford the or in poor, thats a fortune.. I was thinking if I can get a 1.3 retail for about that it would tied me over until I was no longer poor and could get with an A64. Im kinda torn... a 1.3 which I would need to by a new cooler for as I have a POS antec cooler, which puts me well over 40, a new burner but I dont burn many cd's plus the other machine im my house, a p4 2gig dell (not mine, my baby sisters) has a higher speed burner, or a new game, like call to arms or something FPSish ww2. Maybe BF42 which I was not really impressed with but if 1000's are playing it then its an option as well.

    anyway I digress, maybe Ill sock it away and add more to it, with out the wifes knowledge until I have enough to atleast move to a new mobo ram and proc, think abit nf2 board or the asus nf2 deluxe board a barton 2500 and 512 ram...
