laptop overheating! help?

my laptop gets very very hot, and the battery also only lasts about 45 muinutes. If it a fairly new computer. But back to the heating. AAfter a while, the power supply coord tip thatg conects to the laptop, the metal peice, becomes so hot i cant even tocuch it without it hurting. THe same hapenes with the network card. Is it suppose to be like this? or what? any suggestions or help? thank you-nate
