problem with windows media player and vlc player

edited March 2006 in Science & Tech
Hi, i just build a new system, amd sempron 2800+ with asus k8n motherboard, 512 ocz performance rev3, seagate 200 SATA drive, pioneer dvdrw110 and asus 6600LE video card 256mb. I just install softwares and went to watch a rm file, I open with media player and it just freezes sort of, 100% cpu load from media player alone, same thing with vlc player, i open an avi file and 100% cpu usage, I don't think it's a virus, since i just installed everything fresh. What might be wrong?

Please help, thanks.

hmm, it might have somthing to do with codecs, i reccomend the FFDSHOW codec pack, though VLC usually plays any format and codec straight out. Give that a shot and let us know.

I try the FFDshow codec, but same problem as well. This is frustrating.

Ok, let's think about this--- It worked BEFORE your reload, right??? Did you then haveany security fixes that might have made it work installed?? Recently there have been some WMP fixes for various things, plus some older ones for performance issues. For instance, the last batch of updates got me WMP 10 for XP (from WMP 9's own updater). It behaves here.
