Possible router solutions?

I need a solution for a problem, when I use bittorrent I guess it just BOGS down the connection I have, of course everyone suffers as well. Even if it's only doing 30KBps it's still bogging down the connection, I guess having too many concurrent connections cuases this effect. Which is why I need to get something.... bigger. This is also for fun mind you.

I would guess I could go out and buy an industrial rack mounted router of some sort. But I don't think I'd be wrong in saying a computer built just for routing purposed would do the job just as well? If so, what do I need to do? Now I am sure I could find that answer, but I also need it capable of Wireless Internet.

Currently we have some sort of Belkin Wireless Router, which is nice, but I don't seem to have any ability to run load balancing and such.

Thanks for your input guys ;)

Actually you just need to get your hands on a WRT54G(s) from Linksys, and a copy of Sveasoft's Alchemy-series firmware; you can prioritise incoming/outgoing bittorrent traffic lower than that of standard HTTP/ICMP traffic via the firmware's integrated QoS. :)

I have one too, but that is a long drive lol. So you think that would clear up the whole bitorrent problem?

Mmhmm. It's the same solution more expensive routers would use.

What about my modem, do you think that could also be hindering this connection? Yeah I used to troubleshoot problems for DSL, but I ain't no REAL network technician! LOL

Now my understanding is that modems are generally just converter boxes converting analog data to digital so the computer can read it. The router simply routes that information. If that is true I guess the modem wouldn't hinder it much if at all?

Just don't want any damned problems. :P

The modem for most ISPs might as well be a cat-5 with some LEDs taped to it. ;D

Gah theve bricked more routers then any other they also violate the terms of the gpl by not releasing the sourcecode for there modren releases. He should really use something like dd-wrt or hyper wrt.

edit:Btw make sure its not a revision 5 of the rotuer you can't put linux on them and they have less ram.

Are you sure your bit torrent client isnt just saturating your upload?

mine craps out after a few days becasue it suxks up all the TCP/IP connections, i cant even get DNS to resolve names untill i reset my router

They do release the source. How do you think I have my newest version?

And your statistic about bricking routers is meaningless; it has no context.. They're the #1 provider of 3rd party firmware, so of course they have the most failures.

I work at Best Buy.. I see more iPods get returned broken than any other player. Does that mean they're bad? No. It means we sell more than any other player.
