the TEMP folder that firebird refers to is there, but the temp files folder that IE is talking about is not.

im going to assume my environment variables are all borked and do a repair install.

Baron, are they Torrents that you are trying to download?

I got that same as well but since, i save the files and open it with the client instead.

Edit, i see its not torrents...hmmm...which proggy can you use to open those files?

Just out of curiousity, have you tried running a chkdsk on that drive?

    chkdsk c: /f

    it'll check disk at bootup.

ran a full chkdsk /r off the WinXP cd, did a repair install, still no go. any other suggestions?

mackanz, those are winamp skins, i dont know how to DL them other than clicking the download button off the winamp site, which auto opens them :-/

    i have an idea -
last week i was fiddling around with my machine and i stumbled upon a ghosted user account called ASE .Net passport something or other. being the space conserving fiend that i am, i didn't like having it there... so i got rid of it. i have no idea whether or not this has anything to do with my problem, but .NET has done funky things to me before, so i'm gonna try reinstalling it

Baron, i know it sounds like i think you are stupid (which i DONT)but whatever happened to "Right-click and save as"? Then open the skins from Winamp? Or isn´t it possible?

well see that would be fine, except for links that redirect to other download pages, i.e. go to www.winamp.com/skins and look at any DL link.

its a redirect and then auto open

I had that problem when trying to download bittorrent files after uninstalling DC++. All I had to do to fix that was uninstall bittorrent and then reinstall it.

Enlighten me please: what is a torrent or bittorrent file?

Bittorrent is a swarming P2P application. All files end with the .torrent extension, so that you will have *filename.extension.torrent*

    Example is given here:
http://a.scarywater.net/aone/[Aone] Ai Yori Aoshi Enishi Promo [66D42DA0].avi.torrent

Note that beginning speed is slow, it will gain speed as it connects to more peers

    Stupid question:

Did you clear the cache? How much space do you have on the drive? Have you set a limit on the cache size?

Look at your file extensions and see if they're properly associated. Can you double click on a file on your desktop and have it open automatically?

What version of winamp are you using?

BTW: I was able to right click and "save target as" and the .wal file was downloaded.
