Trouble with wireless

edited March 2006 in Science & Tech
I just purchased a new dell inspiron and I can't get wirless to work. My router is set up to not broadcast the ssid and all of the settings are right in the computer. But for some reason I can't seem to get it work. I've tried everything I could think of. Any way of someone maybe giving me some help?

One time this happened to me, and I was going totally nuts - and it turned out there was an actual physical switch for wireless on/off on the side of the laptop. Click the switch to "on" and boom. everything worked.

my lappy has a key switch as well as a phyisical switch which is HARD to find. Do you see any other wireless networks in your area? Know if there are supposed to be any around? Got another system which CAN see a wireless network nearby?

I'm on a seperate laptop now and it's working fine. It sees other wireless networks but not mine. lol

Reenable SSID broadcast for the time being. If that doesn't work, something else is wrong, including but not limited to:

    Your shared/private key settings.
    Channel #.
    Key index.
    WEP/WPA code.
    802.11B-only being enabled.

Sounds like the router then... of course both laptops should see the same networks, so to speak.

interesting, somehow it works now. I just enabled auto scan for the channel selection then turned it off and now it seems to be working
