Slow System and Screen Freezes

edited March 2006 in Hardware
I also recently installed Windows XP SP2 again but although I have a similar problem to aaronc's with a very slow system and also screen freezing, the process was only using the CPU by 1 or 2% or not at all! I'm busy upgrading drivers but it's a very slow process and Windows won't shut down automatically.

    1. I've resolved shut down problem. Power Options were set to press off button to shut down. If I do this, it shuts off quickly but if I select Start>Turn Off, then the system hangs.

    2. I performed a clean install of WinXP Prof. All problems resolved except that now none of the USB devices make a connection including Microsoft Wireless Desktop Set, broadband, printer and wireless network. Engineer's solution is to check BIOS to see if USB peripherals are set to off. Problem, I can't access BIOS with plugged in Memorex keyboard - pressed every key but BIOS not obtainable.
