Ok my apologies again.. My problem is My desktop background has been turned into "Warning Spyware threat detected! System Error 1752" and suggests I buy some programs... ( I assume are bogus)

In my system try near clock I have a *new* very suspicious bubble that says my computer is infected. I've run spybot S&D, Ad ware SE and spyware blaster to attempt to clear up my issues. My most recent HJT file is posted below.

Ah, OK. I just responded to your PM to me. So with that said here we go.

Please read these instructions carefully and print them out! Be sure to follow ALL instructions!

Download smitRem.zip and save the file to your desktop.
Can also be downloaded from here; http://www.downloads.subratam.org/smitRem.exe
Right click on the file and extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan on your desktop. Even though you've already ran this scan please run it again.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates:

Don't run it yet!

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:

1. Restart your computer 2. After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8. 3. Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear 4. Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.


Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.


Run Ewido:

• Click on scanner
• Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
• During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK
• When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a check in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections" then choose clean and click OK.
• When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
• Save the report to your desktop

Close Ewido

Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Website > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Reboot back into Windows and click the Panda ActiveScan shortcut, then do a full system scan. Make sure the autoclean box is checked!
Save the scan log and post it along with a new HijackThis Log, the contents of the smitfiles.txt log and the Ewido Log.

Let me know if any problems persist.

When you point at it is says "your system is infected"

Run Hijack This again and put a check (tick) next to the following entry:

Close all other browsers/windows and click Fix Checked.

Reboot into safe mode. Make sure you can see all hidden files and folders, explained below:

• Click "Start".
• Click "My Computer".
• Select the "Tools" menu and click "Folder Options".
• Select the "View" tab.
• Under the "Hidden files and folders" heading, select "Show hidden files and folders".
• Uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)" option.
• Click "Yes" to confirm.
• Uncheck the "Hide file extensions for known file types".
• Click "OK".

Next using Windows Explorer navigate to the following file and delete it:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\intell321.exe<----This file.

Reboot the PC and post another Hijack This log, and let me know if the notification in the taskbar goes away.

OK that's good news! A few more things. Run Hijack This again and put a check (tick) next to the following entries:

The best way to keep these things from happening is to use a different browser other than IE. Firefox is a good one. You can download it from my signature. Also download Spyware Blaster from my signature. It will prevent the installation of bad ActiveX controls. Also be sure to have some good general anti-malware programs. Ad-Aware and Spybot are a neccessity. Download them from my signature. Keep them updated and run scans regularly. Also consider downloading Windows Defender also from my signature. With all these tools on board you will minimize as much as possible your exposure to online threats. Post back that log after following the above instructions. If all is well after that we will deem you completely clean.

Is there a name to this trojan or whatever it is, as my daughter has it on her laptop, she has followed the above and we are working on it now as I post.

Yes. The trojan is called by many names but is usually referred to as the Trojan-Spy.HTML.Smitfraud.c. I know that's a mouthful so we always just call it Smitfraud.
