Missing File Icons on Destop
To make the story short ... one day I turned on my Win 2000 Pro, found some file icons were not on desktop. When I go to IE-5 or control panel it has error popup saying "Your current security settings prohibit ActiveX control running, ...."
I search files, found in search but cannot open them, no action when I double-clicked them, or no action when right-cliked the file.
I went to control panel, also no action when I double-clicked the icons, like Internet Settings.
I went to IE's Tool > Internet Setting > Security, found it is set on High, everytime I moved the bar to Medium or Custom Setting and enable all ActiveX & download, clicked Apply/OK. I go back to Security and find the Bar is back to HIGH & all ActiveX and download are Disabled. It seems the OK/Apply had no effects on what I just done.:sad2:
I reload Windows 2000 and it is the same.
Now in a web page I can't to download, by click the 'download' or search 'go' button. The Window Update page is blank, IE critical update page is blank.
I need advice to find a way, safe mode?, to lower the security to medium and custom set to enable all ActiveX, download, cookies etc. Then download something to check my PC.

One I found weird is ONLY restricted site icon is at Internet Options > Security settings, WITHOUT Internet, Trusted Sites Icons. If the IE I have damaged?
Where can I download an updated IE with the link I can click instead of 'Download' button, since currently settings no effects on clicking any buttons on the net.
Can anyone show me how to change Newtwork administrator settings. I mean this is the only computer, don't know why it didn't allow me to install OPERA due to admin stuffs.
