I am going to network two computers together so that I can both share files and play games between the computers, and also use the same internet access via DSL modem. I was thinking about buying a Ethernet Router, the DI-604 Ethernet Broadband router. Having the setup something like this.

DSL Modem>Ethernet Router>PC1 and PC2

Will this setup work?
Is this the right type of router?
Can I maintain top speeds from this router?
Tips?

Thanks for the help!

Before you say anything, yes I am a so called newbie!

Yeah the D-link router should do the trick for you. Not a bad price. No wireless but if you don't care about that part its great. If you got any problems after you get it, just post another thread and someone will help you out. You shouldn't have any problems playin games either. good luck, keep in touch

    Welcome to short-media.
This is what I'm running with multiple pc's..... http://www.buy.com/prod/Linksys_EtherFast_Cable_DSL_Router_external_b_font_color_DC143C_Top/q/loc/419/10235958.html
I'm using this router and DSL extreme with no problems.
And Yes, You hook your pc's to the router and the router to the modem.
It should come with directions in the box. It's very simple.
But you then have to run your network setup wizard to get it all running.
    Assuming your running Windows XP.

    1. Plug the phone-line from the wall into your DSL modem.
    2. Run a "Straight-through" Cat5 from the modem to the "WAN" port on the router.
    3. Run straight through CAT5 cables to your PCs.

Voila. :) The router takes care of all the connection negotation and whatnot, if you were worried about that. If you have dial-on-demand DSL, you can set the router to dial.

May also be worth looking at a combined modem/router.
