XP wants ATA. I want SATA. XP wins.

edited April 2006 in Hardware
I’m unable to install XP to single HD in SATA, the installation always comes out in UDMA ATA-133. I'm not interested in any RAID configuration. I can’t seem to find a plain old simple NF4 SATA driver with the txtsetup.oem file on it for the F6 prompt.

WinXP SP2
Bios update #20 latest
ABIT AN8 Ultra MOBO, NVIDIA NF4 Ultra Chipset
Seagate ST380817AS, SATA 150 MBS, w/NCQ support
AMD 3700 San Diego

I’m to embarrassed to say how long I’ve been working on this.

Thanks,

Sean

    hi.

    i have some hints that might help you. so let's start:

    1. in your an8 bios, set the following:

    -> integrated peripherals
    -> IDE FUNCTION SETUP -> all enabled
    -> RAID CONFIG -> all disabled (!)

    2. here's a link to an official guide from nvidia on how create a f6-driver-disk.
    to cut the long story short:
    • download the latest forceware driver package and extract the contents by using the "-x" command.
    • take the files from the folder called ...\IDE\WINXP\SATARAID and copy all of them to a floppy disk.
    • during installation press F6 when prompted. you should see the two options NVIDIA RAID CLASS DRIVER and NVIDIA NFORCE STORAGE CONTROLLER. take the second one, the raid driver isn't needed as you don't want to setup a raid array.
    that's it. now windows setup should see your sata hdd and the installation should proceed normally.

    hope this helps. btw, you should have a look at nvidias readme yourself - just in case i messed something up...
