Ah, thank you so much! Im sorry, but I am pretty computer inefficient. I just downloaded Hijackthis....how do I conduct these logs and get them to you?

Delete the HJT program you downloaded and follow these instructions, which will be much easier to follow.

    Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
    • Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
    • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
    • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the "Select Addition Tasks" dialogue.
    • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
    • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
    • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
    • Click on the "Do a system scan and save a log file" button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
    • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.

    • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
    • When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
    • Turn your computer back on.

I did everything up to this point:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\tfsunxoq.dll

I was unable to delete this. A screen said I was not authorized to do so...
  • TroganTrogan London, UK

You will need to go into Safe Mode to delete it.

You can do that by doing the following:
    1. Restart your computer
    2. After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
    3. Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
    4. Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
    http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml

Continue with the instructions, once deleted :)

    Also, I did not find
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4D25F921-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75} - C:\Program Files\MyWaySA\SrchAsDe\1.bin\deSrcAs.dll

I did not find those when I did my Hijackthis scan, but I fixed the other 4. I also deleted MyWaySA from the Add/Remove Programs, and I deleted the file from my programs. I hope Im doing everything right....eek!

Don't panic! You seem to be doing everything right. :)

The entries probably did not show because you uninstalled MyWaySA from Add/Remove programs first.

Post a new HJT log, when everything is done! :)

    Excellent! Your log is clean.

    How is the computer behaving?
  • edited April 2006
Excellent! The problem is gone. Wow, I can't thank you enough! You are one hellava problem-solver, and I greatly appreciate your time and effort all the way from Birmingham, AL :)

I do have some last questions if you don't mind.

    1) Can I put the files back to hidden? Is that a good thing to do?
    2) What was this MyWaySA thing?
    3) I have Ad-Aware SE, and a McCaffee Security Center that came with the computer, which has a personal firewall plus and some virus scan that has a symbol of a shield with a Red V on top of it. Is this enough for future protection? If not, what more should I do.
    4) Also, some of my friends said that the free AVG protection was better than McAfee. Is this true?

Again, thank you so so so much for all your help!

I also have Bazooka and I guess Hijackthis now. Although Bazooka doesn't seem to do much....

Please do and Yes, its good to have them hidden. :)
    2) What was this MyWaySA thing?
I see it as adware so I asked you to remove it. You can get more info here and here

You have the main areas covered. However, I would add the following:

    SpywareBlaster
    SpywareGuard
    Spybot Search & Destroy
    4) Also, some of my friends said that the free AVG protection was better than McAfee. Is this true?
AVG is free, where as MCAfee is paid (or installed with the computer).

I've never used McAfee, but a lot of people think its crap and prefer AVG. I would go with AVG over McAfee any day of the week.

I hope that somehow answers your question.
Again, thank you so so so much for all your help!
    Your Welcome!

Ah sorry, one last thing. If I were to install AVG, I would have to unistall both McCaffee and the Virus Scan right?

    Thanks again, you're a lifesaver.

Yes, you would need to uninstall McAfee because two or more AV's can conflict with each other. Same goes for two Firewalls.

I've heard that McAfee is a nightmare to uninstall. :shakehead

Also, that would mean you will have no Firewall.

Download one of these free Firewalls:

Zone Alarm << I recommend this
    Sunbelt Kerio PF

Let me know how it goes. :)

Everything is going great! Spyware Blaster and Guard are working really well, and I got rid of McAfee and got AVG and ZoneAlarm.

Everything seems to be going very smoothly. Thanks again for everything! :)

    Cool!

Remember to check for regular updates on ALL your programs. Once a week should be alright. :)

I'l mark this resolved. If you need help again, start a new thread. :)
