    It's not an IRQ problem as far as anyone can diagnose.
    With the Belkin Pre-N for example, the PCI>PCMCIA adapter is detected, but any PCMCIA that are subsequently plugged into it are not recognised at all.
    Wrt the X-Fi issue, a fair few people complained about hissing noises etc.
    New revisions of the X-Fi like mine (which come with a heatsink) seem to be unaffected. The problem has also been noted more on the lower end models (XTreme Music, and Platinum editions), which I don't happen to own.
    People that did have this problem have been advised to have their firmware flashed by Creative, which solved many problems.
    Either way, this new BIOS seems to have done the trick for all the cards that I've tried to plug in now. :)
