Cliff notes:
NEW IE in early 2004 that needs new plugins to work. Microsoft does not speak about existing IEs and whether they will be service-packed, but bottom is they probably will as feeding the ActiveX variants needed to not infirnge on Eolas's patants AND the ActiveX needed to avoid that infringement will be a PITA of major sorts to do as Microsoft is saying the new version will also be called IE 6.0.
Part the second-- USERS will get to find the new plugins that get along with the new ways to call them until mfrs of plugins catch up and give Microsoft links to plug in to them. Microsoft is not going to rewrite the plugins themselves except for things they now use (like Windows Media Player, which might also need an upgrade).
