HJT Log - Help with Omegasearch

Hello,
I am trying to help my friend rid her computer of spyware. She obviously has the Omegasearch spyware, as the irritating toolbar comes up at the bottom of the screen. However, the Omegakiller tool did not find anything during a system scan; I tried Short Media's instructions for manually getting rid of it, but I didn't find anything in the HJT log that stood out as an Omegasearch file. It would be really great if someone could take a look at the log (below) and tell me if there's anything I can do to get rid of this.

    Hi, welcome to Short-Media

    You have some nasties in your HJT log, including the LOP infection which you thought was OmegaSearch.

    Before we begin, you will need to move HJT to its own folder either on your C:\ or Desktop. Currently it is here:

    C:\DOCUME~1\ROBERT~1.ROS\LOCALS~1\Temp\Temporary Directory 2 for hijackthis_199.zip\HijackThis.exe

    Or redownload HJT and put it in the correct folder. This is important so backups can be created.

    After doing the above, can you do the following.


    Could you go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall 'Window Search', 'Window Searching', 'Window Active' 'Lop.com', 'LOP SEARCH', 'Browser Enhancer', or 'Ultimate Browser Enhancer' if listed. You may be given a code to insert, do so and reboot when done.

    If none of the above are listed, run the Lop Remover from:
    http://66.220.17.157/help.html

    Thanks for the quick reply!
    I went to the lop.com uninstall site that you linked to, as I didn't find any of the files you listed in my "Add and Remove Programs" - it turns out it was one called "Search Plugin," which I removed. So far (crossing fingers) it seems to have worked. I'm including the HJT log below so you can see if the program has truly been removed.

    If your friend doesn't use Viewpoint, then I suggest uninstalling it from Add/Remove programs.

    Update your Java.
    Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.
    Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components.
    • Close any programmes you may have running, ESPECIALLY your web browser
    • Click Start > Control Panel.
    • Click Add/Remove Programs.
    • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
    • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
    • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove all versions of Java.
    • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.

    OK, I followed the steps you recommended. My friend does not have totally updated Norton definitions, because she doesn't pay for the subscription.
    If that is the case, then she should uninstall Norton. An Anti-Virus program that does not recieve updates is essentially useless.

    Uninstall Norton completely and choose one these free Anti-Virus programs:

    Nod32
    AVG Free Edition << I recommend this
    AntiVir
    avast! 4 Home Edition
