I downloaded flashplayer and went to install as directed by site and got error;
Your architecture, \'x86_64\', is not supported by the
Macromedia Flash Player installer.
Any suggestions?

    Sounds like you installed the 64bit version of linux on whatever system you're using.

    I'm assuming this is for your x64 system running FC5? Since Adobe/Macromedia absolutely hates x64 users and Linux users in general there are no x64-native flash plugins. Macromedia offers this advice which is absolutely totally unhelpful. Until Macromedia deigns to release an x64 version of flash, you'll need to install a 32-bit version of Firefox and the netscape-flash package or gplflash though gplflash will only support things made in older versions of flash.

    I'm in the same boat as you, I just learned to live without flash and am living a better life because of it. Webmasters: don't lock your site into a proprietary format controlled by one company. Don't be afraid to embrace standards.

    Hi drasnor, Your always on target, I always learn from you, This is my third week in Linux Fedora 5 and I'm glad to have your sound advice. I'm just scratching the surf of Linux. I have really only begun. I was a Mac man for 5 years and still have my Mac OS 10.4.4, I can say that it's been rock solid.
    Now I'm stepping in strange waters, but not too strange I had Darwin under my belt a little, Now this is another learning curve. Well thanks once more. fvs

    Hello!

    I had this problem today and resolved it by installing the adobe flash player from the synaptic package manager. (I know this post is from 2 years ago but still nobody posted a solution and i found it by googling)

    That's all well and good. But synaptic is for debain based systems it wouldn't work on FC5 (fedora core). Furthermore it's been 2 years since the original posting and flash's compatibility on *nix now is light years from what it was then.
