Help!!! Trying to go back to XP after XP64 failure

PLease Help me!!!

Upon building my new computer, I tried to install the Windows XP x64 OS and i have been having problems since. After taking it into a comp repair place, I can now run XP64 but ther are too many compatibility issues so i tried installing a regular XP home edition to it, but when i try that, my hard drive, a Hitcahi 500 GB SATA II (Don't ask, i don't know why i didn't just get two drives and RAID them) incorrectly reads my HDD at only 131 GB. I don't know why? even when i try to partition the data, upon completion of installation it says im missing a .dll file. So my question is, is there a way to fix that problem so i can run both versions of windows? And did the computer tech guys change something that i don't know about? I don't have an internal floppy drive by the way, just an external one. I am also very new to pc's.

FYI components im running:

Processor: P4 630 EMT64 compatible
Motherboard: Intel D945GTP (I know i should get a better one for max performance)
Ram: 2.5 GB DDR2-533(1 set of 1Gbx2 and 256mbx2)
HDD: Hitachi 500 GB SATA II

Thank you!!!
