Oblivion: After the end (spoilers!!)

So, I just finished the main quest in Oblivion and I got to thinking "what happens next?". After Martin dies fighting Dagon there's no clear contender to the imperial throne so it's left to the Elder Council to keep the empire together. There's rumours from the provinces of trouble brewing, and without a Septim on the throne is the Empire in trouble? Here's some thoughts I had....

The champion of the Empire (your character) probably has a pretty good chance of being proclaimed the next emperor... you were instrumental in the defeat of Dagon and are (possibly) the head of the mages Guild / head of the fighters Guild / Arena grand champion / etc etc...

The Empire could be faced with civil war quite soon after the events of Oblivion. The provinces could see how weak the Empire is without an Emperor and declare independance. Could make for an interesting follow up game as the Champion is proclaimed Emperor and tries to re-unite the Empire.

What's happening outside of the Empire? All the games so far have taken place on one continent, but there are other continents on Tamriel... one of them is mentioned in a book within the game which refers to a failed invasion attempt by the Empire. This would be my favourite option for the Elder Scrolls 5, since we've never seen much of the other continents on Tamriel this could lead to all sorts of fun possibilities.... what if the denizens of the other continents rely more on technology than magic? Seeing mages and knights face off against guys with muskets and steam powered tanks would be interesting. Especially if you were on the side of the tanks :D If you want to make it even more interesting (and probably get more press) You introduce religion into the mix and have the guys in tanks invading to spread the word of the one true god amongst the heathens of Tamriel.
