Blank dialog box on start up. Logs me off with Yes or No. ???!

Hi. Having a Really annoying problem here.
I start up Windows XP (home) and when I click on my icon to log on, I get a blank dialog box, with the exclamation mark and the big-white-cross-with-red-background jobby, and the options of Yes or No. The X at the top right is greyed out.
I used to be able to log in whether I clicked yes or no, but after about a week of that I cannot log in with either. 'No' logs me straight off, whilst 'Yes' loads up the desktop background for a bit longer, then logs off again. I can log on with a different HD, as I am doing now (and access the problematic hd), so its not a hardware problem (except if it is the problematic hd..). Safe mode (without networking) does work, BUT when loading the computer, I am given the option to not load something called d347bus.sys. If I click yes, it waits a few seconds then loads up. If I leave it, the confirmation text goes but it doesn't do anything.
System Restore doesn't work. Even disabling all the startup items, and all non MS services in msconfig doesn't work.
The computer worked fine, and has done for a while; then suddenly I get this proiblem. The only thing computers are consistent in is there errors.

Sorry about the xtremly long post - just getting all the details in. If anyone can shed some light on this, Please!

Thanks, Patrick
