Laptop dragging, wireless connection fails

My laptop performance has nosedived. I keep getting lots of spam emails from various banks and russian girly contact web sites. Worse of all my newly purchased wireless router appears to keep disconnecting me from the net. I have to restart my web browsing session constantly. I checked my Norton log and noted my son had been checking out adult web sites. He has been duly reprimanded but it seems the damage is done. Please check my HJT log and advise.

Please print or save these instructions, as you'll have no internet connection later on.

Download Ewido Anti-Malware

• Install Ewido
• When installing the program, under "Additonal Options" uncheck:
  • Install background guard
  • Install scan via context menu
• Once installed, open Ewido
• You will need to update Ewido to the latest definition files
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
  • Then click on the Start Update button.
• The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  • If you are having problems with the updater, you can manually update Ewido » Ewido manual updates.
• After it has finished, close Ewido.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:

Once in Safe Mode, please oepn Ewido.

• Click on scanner
• Click Complete System Scan. (Please don't use the computer while Ewido is scanning)
• NOTE: During some scans with Ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
• You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
• If Ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
• DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
• If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
• When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
• Save the report to your desktop

Close Ewido

Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

The Short Media experts I have dealt with in the past have almost always given some sort of explaination as to what my be occuring with my computer. I am reluctant to download further malaware. I am already using Spybot, Adaware and have Norton running on my system.

One of the main problems I am getting is an annoying windows pop-up that says my wireless broadband 2 connection is lost. It asks for me to enter my password repeatedly. By cancelling and continuing to browse I am very clearly still connected to the internet.

Further explaination would be appreciated before going down the path of downloading trial malaware applications.

Your HJT log isn't show any signs of malware, so we need to run some scans to determine what is wrong....hardware or malware.

Ewido is not malware. I'm trying to help you solve your problem, not to give you more mlaware.
