ATI Catalyst 3.8 Driver Package Now Available

As previously mentioned, ATI has released their much-anticipated Catalyst 3.8 driver package (along with a new Catalyst logo) today. These drivers are available after 3:00 PM EST on the official ATI Technologies website at www.atitech.ca.

The Catalyst 3.8 driver package brings with it a significant performance update to ATI-based video adapters that utilize HyperZ technology. The HyperZ enhancements that are available in Catalyst 3.8 provides performance improvements anywhere between 10-20% on applications that utilize HyperZ, mainly Tomb Raider: AoD & Citizen Kabuto. Other titles may also be improved.

Catalyst 3.8 supports a whole slew of new features designed to maximize the experience of your ATI-based video adapter. These features include:

OpenGL and D3D tabs combined into one
Game Profile Feature
CATALYST™ Uninstaller
MULTIMEDIA CENTER™ Update
New ATI 3D Tab Layout
SMARTSHADER™ Effects
VPU Recover
ATI OVERDRIVE
HYDRAVISION™ Basic Edition
TV Overscan

Along with these new features, the Catalyst 3.8 drivers include the latest stability & game compatability fixes, most notably for IL2 Stumovik Forgotten Battles, Tiger Woods Golf, Flight Simulator 2004, CounterStrike, Serious Sam 2, Project A3, ERacer, Midnight Club 2, Tomb Raider: AoD and XIII.

    Catalyst 3.8 was mainly focused on adding new features to the drivers and not on performance.

    Watch Catalyst 3.9 for more performance updates.

    I thought it was 3.7 was bug-fixes, 3.8 was performance. Meh, probably got my numbers mixed up =/

    If you're looking for the patched ati2mtag.sys file for the Catalyst 3.8's, check out the article in my sig "SoftModding Your ATI Radeon 9500."

    It has been updated for the Catalyst 3.8's and has the patched ati2mtag.sys file which allows the soft-mod. :)
