    Do you know how to get to the Windows Recovery Console? If not, follow the instructions the error gives you.

    Insert your Windows CD and wait until you get to this screen here (screen is identical between pro/home):

    rcons00.gif

    And select the option that is squared off.

    Then you'll get this screen (Screen is identical across all NTFS-compatable Windows OSes):

    rcons03.gif

    Type 1, and hit enter, now issue these commands in order:
    cd .. (Issue as many times as you need to to get to C:\)
    Attrib -H -R -S boot.ini
    del Boot.ini
    Bootcfg /Rebuild
    chkdsk /R /F
    Fixboot

    Now reboot your PC.

    Try: ATTRIB -H -R -S c:boot.ini - OR - ATTRIB boot.ini -H -R -S

    I think I understand what u are asking me to do. I still have a question it is in red.

    C:\>CD .. command 1
    CD .. = specifies that you want to change to a parent directory.
    C:\> ATTRIB -H -R -S Boot.ini command 2
    ATTRIB = changes attributes on one file or directory.
    -H = Clears Hidden files attributes.
    -R = Clears Read-only files attributes.
    -S = Clears System files attributes.
    Boot.ini = The file name.
    C:\>DEL Boot.ini command 3
    DEL = DELETE
    Boot.ini = The file name.
    C:\>BOOTCFG /REBUILD command 4
    BOOTCFG= configuration and recovery
    /REBUILD = Iterate though all windows installations and allow the user to choose which to add
    C:\>CHKDSK /R /F command 5
    CHKDSK = Check disk and displays the status report.
    /R = Locates bad sectors and recovers readable information (implies /P) /P = Check even if the drive is not flagged dirty
    /F= fixes errors on the drive if they are located via /R.
    C:\>FIXBOOT command 6
    FIXBOOT = Writes a new bootsector on to the system partition.
    C:\>EXIT command 7
    EXIT= Quit the Recovery Console and restarts the computer.

    What happens when you

    attrib boot.ini

    ???

    This form of the command is actually a query-- if boot.ini exists then attrib will return the file's ATTRIButes.

    Take out your XP CD, clean it carefully under running water, use a bath towle to carefully dry it, and try again. You have a corrupt attrib, probably due to a fingerprint on the CD.

    Please try ATTRIB -H -R -S c:boot.ini - OR - ATTRIB boot.ini -H -R -S instead of the command that doesn't work.

    ...That's your C: drive where windows is installed on?

    Your HDD is practically blank, man. Like it aborted a format.

    New info.

    Ok i have removed the data drive. And now i got a new problem.
    The problem starts the same way.
    Windows could not start becouse the following file is missing or
    corrupt :
    \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

    You can attemp to repair this file by starting Windows Setup
    using the original Setup CD-ROM.
    Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.

    I do this. I install Windows Setup disk in to the CD-ROM drive.
    I get to the first screen and select "r" to go to the Microsoft Windows XP Recovery Console and i get this.

    Windows XP home Edition Setup
    ==========================
    Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer.
    Make sure any hard disk drives are power on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct .this may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program.

    Setup cannot continue. To quit setup, press F3.

    Ok i have loaded twice with the same results.
    I take it that I am now looking at problem with my raid drives?
    Ok i have look at each drive. The ATA cable on both drives is pluged in to the hard drive and the mainboard and the power cables are hooked up too.

    Waiting for the computer gods to return and smile on me !!

    The fight continues on !!
