BHO Problem (I think)
Hi! You all seem like a nice, knowledgeable bunch here and was hoping to maybe get a little help with a small prblem I'm having. Any insight would be greatly appreciated 
My fairly new laptop has recently come under attack from some bad programs. I got hit by the Spyware Quake and easly removed it (I thought) but it came back, and I removed it again. Most recently I started getting pop-ups and security alerts much like the Spyware Quake ones I was getting. I ran a few different programs and it seems to have cleared out most of the trouble. Now I just have something taking over my Internet Explorer, which I almost never use so its not that big a problem. The homepage has been hijacked to http://www.guarduptodate.com/
The site is headed as Security Center and is trying to get me to download Pest Trap, Malware Wipe and a few others. In the internet properties the homepage is set to about:blank, and changing it back to the default does nothing. I ran Hijack This and only noticed a suspicious BHO, so I manually deleted it in safe mode, but it came back.
Mainly I dont see this as a very big problem, but I know theres something on my system I dont that could be doing bad things, and it kills not being able to rid of it.
I have followed all of you directions for posting a Hijack This Log. The only problem I found was on the online scans. I have used Panda Online before, but this time it wasnt working. None of them were. They wouldnt work in Firefox and for some reason the links were removed in my I.E. so the scan now buttons were just images. Everything else has been done in the posting instructions. Ohhh except downloading Spyware Blaster, forgot about that. Im going to do that right after posting this.

Download SmitfraudFix.zip to your desktop -> http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip
Unzip it (folder named SmitFraudFix) to your desktop:
Open the folder SmitfraudFix and doubleclick smitfraudfix.cmd
Choose option #1 - Search by typing 1 and pressing "Enter"; a textfile opens and lists the infected files (if those exist)
Post the contents of this textfile to here.
(Some antiviruses recognises process.exe as a malware. It is not malware, it is a program that stops processes)

Open the folder SmitfraudFix and doubleclick smitfraudfix.cmd
Choose option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and pressing "Enter" in order to remove the infected files.
You are asked: "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove your desktop wallpaper and the infected registry keys.
The tool checks if wininet.dll file is infected. You might be asked to replace the infected .dll (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".
The tool might have to restart your computer; if it won't do it, restart your computer back to normal mode.
A textfile will appear after the cleaning process, copy this file and paste it to here.
That log is saved to your local diskdrive, usually C:\rapport.txt.
Send a fresh hijack log too.

Please download ewido anti malware it is a free version of the program -> http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
1. Install ewido security suite
2. When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck..
* Install background guard
* Install scan via context menu
3. Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double-click it.
4. The program will now open to the main screen.
5. When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
6. You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
* On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
* Then click on Start Update.
7. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
(the status bar at the bottom will display ("Update successful")
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.

Once the updates are installed do the following:
Run hijack and check that:
O20 - Winlogon Notify: winbfi32 - winbfi32.dll (file missing)
Close all windows and click Fix Checked.
Reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
1. Restart your computer
2. After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3. Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4. Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
Launch ewido:
* Click on scanner
* Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
* You will be prompted to clean the first infection.
* Select "Perform action on all infections", then proceed.
* Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
* Click Save report.
* Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.
Close ewido security suite.
Reboot back to normal mode
Send a fresh HjT log and ewido report.

Yes it could be. Please delete that smithfraudfix files and folders. Download again smithfraudfix and be sure that norton don't delete process.exe file.
