No PS2 multiplayer.

I have a Linksys wireless router that works flawlessly on two wired and one wireless PC. We had a laptop that also worked wirelessly in an attic bedroom (2nd floor). The wireless PC is on the 1st floor, no probs. The problem is with a PS2 that is also on the 1st floor, in the room next to the other PC. It is connected through a Linksys gaming adapter. If we bring it downstairs, where the router lives, it works ok but when it is taken back upstairs it won't connect. The PS2 is about 6m away, the 'line of sight' would go through several walls but so did the laptop and that was further away.
Any suggestions guys?
